brilliant. i needed to read this. i totally agree, as i am not motivated by money. i need enough to get by, but i live a modest life. what motivates me is having satisfaction in getting to do what i love doing. i am inspired when what i do has a positive effect on others; when i see them enjoying what i have helped create.

i got really excited when i saw the title of this article was, "don't do market research." my business partner and i have been hammering away at our startup for the last 6-9 months. every move we have made thus far has been because we were going with what we felt was right-not because we did extensive market research. recently, however, we have gotten into some market research. i have felt it important to get a bit of an education on what is going on in the market just so we are not flying completely blind, but in passing moments i have paid tribute to the idea of doing no market research. in any case it's something to think about. i'm just not sure outside investors would have the same appreciation for the idea...

Interesting quotes from Akio.

I agree with him that people put too much emphasis on the financial compensation of employment...people work for a lot more compelling reasons than money. And I don't know that's it's necessarily working for me, but as far as market research goes, I also agree on just going with your gut. If you see a problem and know you can fix it, you probably don't need research to tell you if people want it!
