In addition to hiring part-time employees, you can also outsource or delegate to virtual assistants or contractors.

I totally agree with the idea that the sooner you bring people into help you, the sooner you can exponentially grow your business.

The biggest thing is figuring out what to delegate, then how to pay for it.

I recommend to my clients to make a list of everything they spend their time doing then identify the tasks that cost them the most to do themselves (i.e. other people could do it better, faster or cheaper.)

It's pretty easy to figure out how to pay for it once you realize how much it's costing you!

Hi Evan,

Good post on building a solid team, I don't think people realise how significant having a good team really is.

I wanted to ask how to get on the blogroll also?

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Evan,
You make a great point about how valuable part-time employees can be for a start-up. Another place you and your readers should check out is oDesk (http://www.odesk.com), an online global marketplace with over 15,000 providers. What's neat about oDesk is that there are many tools to help remote teams work together -- perfect if your company employees are scattered throughout the country, or the world. oDesk makes it easy to see when your coworkers are online and it's easy to see what others have done with our code repository.

Couldn't agree with you more about getting part-timers. I still use them after 3 years into the business. And why not? If you can get good staff, keep costs low, and keep them happy by not hogging all their time so they can be with their family its a win-win situation for all.

I think the trend is going to continue that way- believing in the idea of the long tail, that there will be more micro-entrepreneurs because the internet makes it possible so there will be more part-timers and more people who don't end up wasting and whining their lives away.
